During a first session we’ll go over the process of therapy as well as the details like payment, scheduling, and confidentiality. We’ll also focus on what your goals are for therapy and how we can achieve those goals. We’ll go over any symptoms you’re having and the history of your mental health. If there are kids in session, first sessions will also include time to play and explore the space.
My first in-person session starts at 8am and my last begins at 3:00pm. I’m available Monday-Thursday. I have some evening and Friday appointments for established clients. I am available both virtually and in-person. I do not offer evening nor weekend appointments.
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It uses bilateral stimulation (any sensation that moves between left and right side of our bodies) to help our brain move past traumatic memories to decrease the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder. I’m open to all ages. I have had children as young as 18 months and worked with adults well into their seventies. I have extensive training in child development and welcome all kids (and adults) in session. I believe the entire life span is important and anyone can benefit from therapy regardless of age.
Maybe. My focus is on family systems but not all problems need the whole family involved. For stress in a marriage or romantic relationship, I recommend having your partner involved. Couples therapy tends to be more effective and help strengthen your relationship overall. When working with children, I expect all parents to be involved. I see your child for only an hour a week, you have them the rest of time. To ensure we’re making process, I find family work to be the most effective in helping children and teens.
Yes, I take insurance. I am in network with Aetna, Anthem/BCBS, Optum, United, Lyra, and Cigna. My self-pay costs are $150 for an intake session and $125 for 55 min sessions.
I think mental health services should be accessible for everyone. I offer lower fees when services may not be otherwise affordable. I also work with a network of other providers in the area to connect clients to counselors who can provide the services they need. If you’re struggling to find a provider you can afford, please send me a message.
I’m training in family systems so I focus on patterns of behavior that keep us stuck especially in our relationships. This can include the relationship you have with your parents, kids, parents, friends, even your boss. One of my areas of focus is attachment which means a lot of attention to how we think about our needs, emotions, and care with ourselves and others. A large part of my case work is also trauma focused, here I use EMDR to help process memories and improve symptoms.
If you want the clinical answer: I use emotionally focused therapy and Gottman therapy with couples and play, attachment, and filial therapy with kids and family. When working with individuals I find a blend of family systems, attachment, and humanistic therapy to be most helpful. If the goal is trauma reduction, then I use EMDR to process targets.
I am not trained as a Christian counselor. I am happy to incorporate faith and spirituality in our sessions if that’s important. I also understand some individuals have religious trauma, so I ensure my work is open and supportive of them as well.
Yes! While, I’m cisgendered and straight I work to be a thoughtful and supportive ally to all my clients. I also have experience working with kink and poly communities as well.
